SLMM shuts municipal, village council officesSamyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha (SLMM) padlocked all municipal and village council offices in Saptari on Sunday, They were protesting against “unscientific restructuring” of the local units and the government’s reluctance to amend the constitution to address their concerns before the local level elections. The municipal offices of Kanchanrup, Dakneshwori, Bodebarsain, Khadak, Shambhunath, Surunga and Hanuman Nagar Kankalini, and the village council offices of Krishnasabaran, Chinnamasta, Mahadeva, Saptakoshi, Tirahut, Tilathi Koiladi, Rupani, Belhi Chapena and Bishnupur were padlocked because the government does not seem serious about addressing our demands, said local SLMM leader, Gajendra Mandal.The SLMM activists also burned the signboard of Hanuman Nagar Kankalini Municipal Office.Meanwhile, a meeting called by the District Election Office to prepare for the local elections has been postponed at the request of the SLMM. Acting Chief District Officer Krishna Bahadur Katuwal said the meeting slated for Sunday was postponed at the request of the SLMM.
